91原创 students and their parents were sudzing cars, collecting bottles, and cooking hotdogs on Saturday, April 13, to raise funds for this year鈥檚 dry grad celebration.

Mom Carolyn Reimer, president of the dry grad committee at R.E. Mountain Secondary, said the school鈥檚 class of 2024 has 468 students graduating 鈥� which poses some challenges.

鈥淭here are limited venue options within 91原创 or Surrey that can accommodate so many people, [and] we must plan on busing the children to the dry grad venue,鈥� she explained.

The committee anticipates at least 10 large buses will be needed to transport all the students, which gets expensive.

鈥淲e are uncertain as to whether we can provide the event should we not meet our fundraising target [up to $60,000],鈥� Reimer told the 91原创 Advance Times.

Saturday鈥檚 mixed fundraiser event was one of many the parents have planned, which also includes a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction for the signed Canucks jersey by Elias Pettersson.

鈥淲e are also looking for sponsorships, and we have many different levels,鈥� Reimer said.

All proceeds will go towards the dry grad celebration scheduled for June, and to help provide a safe, inclusive, and drug- and alcohol-free after-prom event for this year鈥檚 grad class.

鈥淲e hope to provide a fun celebration for our grads鈥� these students have not been afforded the opportunities typically experienced by children in high school [due to COVID],鈥� Reimer commented.

The dry grad committee鈥檚 next fundraiser event is in partnership with Preston GM on Sunday, April 21. Drivers, both experience and new, are invited to test drive a new Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, or Cadillac.

For every test drive, Preston GM will donate $25, up to a maximum of 100 test drives.

A bottle drive will also be running on site, and students will be selling Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.

The event will be at the R.E. Mountain Secondary parking lot, located at 7633 202a St.
