In just over three weeks, stepped-up traffic enforcement by 91原创 RCMP officer caught 120 speeders, some so far over the limit that their vehicles were seized.
After traffic enforcement was ramped up in response to what was described as "numerous complaints" were from residents relating to speeding vehicles, between Dec, 15 and Jan. 6, 120 tickets were handed out to drivers in both the City of 91原创 and the Township of 91原创.
More than half, 63, were speeding in school and playground zones. Forty-nine were cited for violating municipal speed limits.
Eight drivers were caught doing 41 km/hr or more above the posted limit, excessive speeding violations that came with a mandatory seven-day vehicle impoundment.
In one instance, on Monday, Dec. 23, just before Christmas, 91原创 RCMP pulled a driver off the road who was going twice the speed limit 鈥 112 km per hour in a 50 km zone 鈥 near 56 Avenue and 216 Street.
One day after the campaign had wound down, on Jan. 7, two drivers were caught travelling 112 km/h in a 50 zone. Both were served excessive speed violation tickets and had their respective vehicles impounded for seven days.
鈥淲e all have a role to play when to comes to making our roads and communities safer, so please slow down and drive responsibly. Remember, road safety is life safety,鈥 said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom of the 91原创 RCMP.
Sharoom advised anyone spotting drivers operating a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner to please contact local police to make a report.
