91原创-based Thunderbird Fast Draw Club members posted multiple top finishes at the world six gun quick draw championships in Forest Grove, Oregon Aug. 9-11.
In the open class division, Thunderbird competitors, all of whom are members of the 91原创 Rod & Gun Club, gathered up the first four places in men's division. with 91原创's Shawn Murphy winning first place overall.
Abbotsford's John LeBlanc placed second, Surrey's Garry Porteous took third, and Burnaby's Den Robinson took fourth, and the 'Bad Eye' Lefty 'Most Hit Targets' trophy.
The 'Lefty' trophy honours the memory of the late Dan Arends, who passed from a heart attack during a fast draw competition five years ago, attended by Robinson.
"I will never forget that fateful day," Robinson recalled.
"I was lined up with 'Lefty' when he fell, and. I don't think any of us that were on the line that fateful day ever will forget, either. None of the five shooters on that line at that time could shoot well after that-we simply wanted to go home-but couldn't." Robinson recalled.
Arends wasn't known as a fast shooter, but did hit his targets "a lot," Robinson said.
"My own desire came to be wanting to win that 'Lefty' memorial award' so bad 鈥� and finally, this year, I was able to."
In the Women's Open Div. ,Aldergrove's Nicole Franks followed up her victory in the Aldergrove World Blank FD Championships by taking first overall in the Oregon women's open class, while Thunderbird member Paula Murphy was second.
In the Thumb-busters (using a one-handed draw) championship's class, 91原创's Shawn Murphy, was first in the men;s category, while Nicole Franks topped the women's thumbers Division, with her Mom, Peggy Franks, also from Aldergrove, taking second and 91原创 resident Paula Murphy was third.
