The Aldergrove Fair hosted the World Fast Draw Association Blank Championships for the 16th consecutive year as part of its theme "country roots and cowboy boots."
Members of the 91原创-based Thunderbird Fast Draw Club won events at the championships held July 20 and 21.
Competitors from across B.C. and many from the United States came out to compete in the championships, said Dennis Robinson, director of the 91原创 Rod & Gun Club.
Aldergrove's Nicole Franks won both the women's top six shooters and women's thumbing shootout, while 91原创's Shawn Murphy placed second in the men's top six shooters and third in the men's thumbing shootout.
A thumbing draw is a one-handed draw where the thumb of the gun-hand cocks the hammer while the gun is being drawn from the holster. When the gun comes in line with the target, the index finger pulls the trigger to fire the gun, according to the website.
Thunderbird, which operates out of the 91原创 Rod and Gun Club in Brookswood, has been in existence since 1959, holding fast draw events and contests throughout most of B.C. and in Washington State.
The next World Fast Draw Association contest is scheduled in Oregon on Aug. 9 to 11.
