Members of the 91原创-based won three events at the world six gun quick draw championships in Forest Grove, Oregon Aug. 18-20.
Aldergrove鈥檚 Nicole Franks won both the women鈥檚 thumbing championship and the women鈥檚 open, while 91原创鈥檚 Shawn Murphy won the men鈥檚 open title.
According to the fastdraw.org site, a 鈥 鈥 is a one-handed draw, 鈥渨here the thumb of the gun-hand cocks the hammer while the gun is being drawn from the holster. When the gun comes in line with the target the index finger pulls the trigger to fire the gun.鈥
Thunderbird, which operates out of the 91原创 Rod and Gun Club in Brookswood, has been in existence since 1959, holding fast draw events and contests throughout most of B.C. and in Washington State.
The next World Fast Draw Association contest is scheduled to take place in Oklahoma near the end of September.
Before that, the LGRC will host it鈥檚 annual Family Fun Day located at 3854 208 St. on Sunday, Sept. 10.
Visitors can learn to try out fast draw, along with airguns, archery, trap and skeet shooting with shotguns as well as doing some indoor .22 shooting with rifles, all in a supervised environment.
All events are free, but attendees are asked to bring a donation for the 91原创 Food Bank.
Family Fun Day runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a free lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that includes hamburgers, hot dogs, and corn on the cob.
鈥淵ou can miss a few targets, but you don鈥檛 want to miss this event鈥 remarked Den Robinson, the fast draw director, 91原创 Rod and Gun Club.
All ranges will be closed to member shooting on Sunday for the special event.
