Fox's motion simply part of doing Township business

I support Councillor Charlie’s Fox motion because I know that I would like to see a conclusion to the investigation of the mayor prior to the next election, to help me in my voting decisions. While I sympathize with the mayor’s family situation, I can’t accept that as a reason not to follow through on this.

Polak's letter filled with misinformation

The HST will not go to 10 per cent until 2014. I would venture to say that when that year comes around, the Liberal government will find some reason why they have to backtrack on that promise. We will probably be faced with an increased HST, rather than a reduced one.

EDITORIAL: Canada's flag beloved

It's hard to believe Canada's flag, the Maple Leaf, was the subject of contentious and divisive debate before it was adopted in 1965 to replace the venerable Red Ensign.

Strawberry fields last forever

The strawberry season has begun — far later than usual, which isn’t surprising, considering the continuing cool weather. When the season begins, it always takes me back to one of my first jobs as a young person, and probably one of the toughest jobs I’ve ever had. The job was strawberry picking.

HST has hurt her business

I strongly disagree that the HST helps to grow all small businesses. I am a Registered Massage Therapist. We have always had to charge five per cent GST to patients, but with the inception of HST, we had to add another seven per cent to our treatment costs. What this means is the one-hour massage has $10 of tax in its price. For many patients, this increase has become too much and they have cut back on how often they can receive treatments, if at all.

Don't sell Routley school site

MLAs Rich Coleman and Mary Polak must step in and put a stop to the Routley school sale. Routley children attend schools that are so overcrowded the kids can only play outside on alternating days. The temporary dip in enrolment ended in 2007, and the echo boom is upon us.

Editorial — A good appointment

Former B.C. premier Gordon Campbell is a good choice as Canada’s next high commissioner to Great Britain.

Get back up

In regards to the fans, don’t let the anger and sadness of those lost games tarnish your lives. A true player, like a true hockey fan, is the one who humbly admits a loss, gets up, brushes off his/her shirt, and plays again with courage and dignity.

Frontier was more than a business

My sports jacket was coming off as I climbed the stairs in the Fort 91Ô´´ Community Hall where I could hear raucous laughter bouncing off the walls followed by applause and cheering. The area around the bar was crowded and the tables along the back wall were filled with enough food to choke a horse. This was an old time, Friday night, small town party.

Society treats young people as children

Maybe the problem is not simply a lack of spirituality, an excess of capitalism, or bad parenting. Maybe it’s that our whole societal structure treats young men, and young people, like children for far too long.
