A crop of vegetables and herbs has been planted in front of the Township of 91Ô­´´ Civic Facility building at 20338 – 65 Ave., to provide both decoration and education.

A 91Ô­´´ non-profit organization, The Food For Famine Society (FFF), is calling on Lower Mainland residents to join its efforts to help feed children in the Horn of Africa. The society is asking for cash donations to help purchase supplies of individual packets of Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), which is used to help treat children under the age of five who are suffering from severe malnutrition.

Seventeen-year-old Fionn Wiens from 91Ô­´´, was crowned the Girlz Champion of Sunshine Nation 2011 in front of a full house of audience at the Michael J. Fox Theatre on Friday, Aug. 26.

In January, 2011, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the creation of the Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards to recognize the enormous contribution volunteers make to Canada. The awards recognize the exceptional contributions of volunteers, local businesses and innovative not-for-profit organizations in improving the well-being of families and their communities. Nominations are now being sought.

The sixth annual 91Ô­´´ School District Foundation golf tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31.
