Urban vegetable patch prompts plenty of comment

A crop of vegetables and herbs has been planted in front of the Township of 91Ô­´´ Civic Facility building at 20338 – 65 Ave., to provide both decoration and education.

A 91Ô­´´ non-profit organization, The Food For Famine Society (FFF), is calling on Lower Mainland residents to join its efforts to help feed children in the Horn of Africa. The society is asking for cash donations to help purchase supplies of individual packets of Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), which is used to help treat children under the age of five who are suffering from severe malnutrition.

In January, 2011, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the creation of the Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards to recognize the enormous contribution volunteers make to Canada. The awards recognize the exceptional contributions of volunteers, local businesses and innovative not-for-profit organizations in improving the well-being of families and their communities. Nominations are now being sought.
