The past year has been a pivotal year for the 91原创 Advance Times.
Amalgamation of the Times and the Advance has changed the landscape of the local media in 91原创, said publisher Lisa Farquharson.
鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 be more proud of every member of our team. We鈥檝e worked extremely hard to come together to build a product 鈥 both online and in print 鈥 that will inform and engage the residents of 91原创 every day,鈥 she said.
This weekend, the team learned their recently re-branded 91原创 Advance Times has been singled out for an overall 鈥済eneral excellence鈥 award within the B.C. and Yukon Community NewsMedia Association.
鈥淏ecoming a finalist in the newsmedia excellence category confirms that our hard work paid off and that our editorial, sales, creative, and circulation teams are creating a strong community product,鈥 Farquharson said.
In addition to being shortlisted for the general excellence award, one of this team鈥檚 reporters was also shortlisted for accolades.

REPORTER SINGLED OUT
Joti Grewal embodies the title of multi-media journalist.
Having graduated from Ryerson University鈥檚 journalism program in August 2018, Grewal is already making her mark in B.C.鈥檚 media world, Farquharson said.
The 29-year-old is one of three reporters nominated by industry peers for the BCYCNA鈥檚 new journalist of the year award.
After working for a few months with the Black Press Media digital team, last fall Grewal stepped in to a community reporting position with 91原创 Advance Times and Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows News.
鈥淲e are so proud of Joti being named a finalist鈥 her dedication to her team, as well as the communities she engages with, show the passion she has for people and telling their story,鈥 the publisher said.
鈥淭his young journalist has an inherent understanding of how to drill down to the crux of a local story and the mandatory information needed by the readers, while still being able to breathe humanity into each article.鈥
If she wants it, Grewal will have a long and successful career as a journalist 鈥 making a significant difference in the world around her, Farquharson elaborated.
The 91原创 Advance Times and more than 20 other Black Press Media journalists and publications are upfor various awards in the provincial industry awards competition called the Ma Murray鈥檚.
The winners in these and other categories will be announced April 25.
