Ken Huang has been with Real Canadian Superstore corporate for more than 30 years but decided to open his own business, opting for a No Frills franchise.

It opened at 20150 91原创 Bypass on Thursday, April 24, with his wife and two children, along with many Loblaws executives, 91原创 City council members, staff members, others, and shoppers looking to check out the new 24,000 square foot store.

"The main reason I want to open the store is I've always been in retail," Huang said. "I always love enjoying interactions with the customers, the community, and the No Frills team itself is very big on that as well, being involved in the community, contributing, donating, and so it just fits well being part of the No Frills team. So, and here I am."

The first order of business was Huang presenting a $2,500 donation to Big Brothers, Big Sisters 91原创. He explained that the donation is from No Frills and he looks forward to other initiatives to support the community.

There's already Michael's No Frills in 91原创 Mall, 204 Street and 56 Avenue. Huang said that despite the proximity, they are not in direct competition. The downtown location has a great deal of foot traffic. His location on the bypass will see more commuter traffic.

"We all have our own niche," he said.

The location is the former Mark's (former Mark's Work Warehouse), which moved about one kilometre west to 91原创 City Square.

"The Loblaw teams chose this, and it's a fantastic location," Huang said.

The store has brought some new jobs to the community as well.

"We have anywhere from 50 to 60 people," he said.

Huang said the process to get City approvals went quickly.

"It was very smooth, like the City was very accommodating. If you go through the proper channels and proper processes, it's smooth," Huang said.
