A huge crowd packed into the gym of Aldergrove Community Secondary for the first ever 91原创 Hoop-A-Thon fundraiser, organized by the Rotary Clubs of 91原创 in partnership with the Vancouver Bandits. 

Held in Vancouver for the last 25 years, organizer and Aldergrove Rotary Club member Emma Stewart said the local clubs wanted to bring it to the 91原创 community to support its students.

鈥淎ll net proceeds are raised to support youth sports and initiatives in our 91原创 community. We are supporting 91原创 Foundry, the Boys and Girls Club of 91原创, Big Brothers and Sisters of 91原创, and purchasing equipment for a couple 91原创 elementary schools,鈥� Stewart explained.

A lot of people in attendance raised money through pledges per basket, how many free throws scored within one minute, and lump sum donations. 

鈥淭his event is all about bringing the 91原创 community together to raise much needed funds for youth sports and initiatives,鈥� Stewart commented.

All combined, a preliminary total raised is about $25,000, Stewart told The Star on Thursday, June 6, breaking the clubs' goal of $20,000.

"It's nice to see that all the money raised is staying in the 91原创 community and helping the youth in elementary schools," commented Jim McGregor, an active member in the 91原创 community who acted as emcee for the event. 

Four players from the Vancouver Bandits came out for the second half of the event, with Diego Maffia scoring the most baskets at 38. 

The Hoop-A-Thon involved a competition between registered teams and players for who can free-throw the most baskets within one minute. Prizes were given to the player that sunk the most baskets and the team who raised the most funds.
