The good news for Vernon golfer Bryce Barker is his 5-under-par 67 put him third place overall in a field of 74 at the 18-hole PGA Tour Waste Management Phoenix Open Pre-Qualifying event held Monday, Jan. 27, at the McCormick Ranch/Pines Course in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The bad news?
Only the top two scores advanced to the final qualifier.
Ollie Osborne of Reno won the event at McCormick Ranch/Pines with an 8-under 64, while Zack Stocker of Tempe, AZ carded a 6-under 66 to deny Barker the second spot.
Barker had five birdies and no bogeys on his scorecard.
A staggering 672 golfers paid $250 each to play in one of eight pre-qualifiers around Greater Phoenix. The 672 spots were filled in just two days, and a wait list had to be created.
The final qualifying round for the 2025 Phoenix Open is Feb. 3 in Scottsdale. Only the top-three finishers there will get a tee time at the famed PGA event, played at TPC Scottsdale's Stadium Course Feb. 6-9. The field will be capped at 120 golfers.
