Meet Surrey Eagles players, head coach in White Rock this weekend

South Surrey junior hockey squad currently sitting second in conference standings

It's been a solid start to 2025 for the , who are currently sitting second in the Coastal Conference standings.

The British Columbia Hockey League team, based in South Surrey, has won their last five games in a row, beating Coquitlam Express 7-1 at Poirer Sports and Leisure Centre Saturday (Jan. 25), after winning 3-2 over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs the night before.

Eagles co-owner Rob Brar, who owns the team with his brother, TJ, said some of the junior hockey squad's injured players have started to come back, with more expected to be healthy by playoffs.

"The team is coming together ... soon we'll have all our injured players back before the playoffs," Brar said of the team, who won the Fred Page Cup last season, as well as six of seven year-end BCHL trophies.

"We're positioning our team to make another massive run for the championship again and can't wait to see where it all falls. It is our passion to be No. 1 on and off the ice."

After a sellout crowd for their Lunar New Year game Jan. 24, Brar noted this weekend is a great one for people to meet a few Eagles players as well as general manager and head coach Scott Gomez, a former NHL player and two-time Stanley Cup winner.

Gomez and Eagles players will be at a meet-and-greet Saturday (Feb. 1) at White Rock Beach Beer from 2-4 p.m.

"Scott Gomez is a two-time Stanley Cup champion and he is a legend here in Surrey for hockey — this guy played his junior hockey here — how many times are people going to get to meet with a legend like him? He is genuinely one of the most nicest, down-to-earth guys you've ever met," Brar said.

"If you've got old player cards of Scotty's, bring them down to get signed and get your picture taken with him and meet some of the players, too."

Fans can also enjoy a 'Skate with the Eagles' post-game experience this Sunday, Feb. 2, after their next home game vs. Powell River Kings.
