Team Mexico player Diego Hernandez Valenzuela just couldn鈥檛 sleep before the game against Slovakia.
鈥淭he night before, I couldn鈥檛 get any rest,鈥� Diego recalled.
鈥淚 was tossing and turning.鈥�
Heading into day three of the 2019 World Lacrosse Men鈥檚 Indoor World Championship in 91原创 on Saturday, Sept 21, No. 28 wasn鈥檛 losing sleep over the game.
It was about afterwards, when Diego was planning to propose to his girlfriend, Jessica Linstrom, who had come up from Texas to watch him play.
After several years together, Jessica said, 鈥渨e were going to get married, but we didn鈥檛 know when.鈥�
She had no idea it was about to happen.
Jessica, who describes Diego as her 鈥渂est friend,鈥� wore his number to cheer him on during the game, which ended with Mexico鈥檚 18-7 loss to Slovakia at the 91原创 Events Centre (LEC) Fieldhouse.
Then, as she walked onto the field, someone with a microphone told her 鈥淚 think Diego has something to ask you.鈥�
Diego took the microphone and dropped to one knee.
鈥淛essica Linstrom, I want to be with you forever,鈥� Diego said, producing the ring he鈥檇 kept hidden in his bag on the sidelines.
鈥淲ill you marry me?鈥�
鈥淚 was like, oh my God, this is happening,鈥� Jessica recalled.
鈥淚t was amazing.鈥�
鈥淪i,鈥� she said and kissed him.
Love was in the air following today's game against Slovakia, as Diego Valenzuela popped the question to his girlfriend...... and she said yes! Congrats to them both!

As they hugged, 鈥淢arry You鈥� began playing over the arena speakers, with Bruno Mars singing 鈥渉ey baby/I think I wanna marry you.鈥�
Jessica was beaming and a little teary as she walked off the field
鈥淢y family saw it live, because it was streaming [online],鈥� Jessica told the 91原创 Advance Times.
鈥淢y mom said, 鈥榳atching it made my heart melt.鈥欌��
Diego had been waiting more than a month to pop the question at the championships.
鈥淛ust hold off, hold off,鈥� he kept telling himself.
When he revealed his plan to some teammates shortly after arrival in 91原创, they decided to involve the LEC.
Gary Ahuja, manager, corporate communications and media at Ten Feet Sports and Entertainment Ltd. at the LEC, said they were 鈥渕ore than happy to help鈥� when Team Mexico approached them
鈥淐ongratulations to the happy couple and we thank them for including our team in this joyous occasion,鈥� Ahuja said.
