Editor: It was with interest that I read the Mr. Dallas wrote to your paper condemning your advertising policies. His fear, however, and thus his condemnation, is based on his ignorance of our firearms laws and how firearms are used in Canada.
Had Mr. Dallas attempted to purchase one of those advertised firearms he would have found it impossible, nor could he even have purchased any ammunition for them.
Our firearms licensing procedure in Canada is lengthy and quite intensive. Obtaining a driver鈥檚 licence is a piece of cake by comparison. No single group wants to see the illegal use of firearms ended as badly as those of us who have gone through the time and expense necessary to use them legally.
To insist that people only be permitted firearms intended for killing animals ignores the very large number of recreational shooters who have no intention of ever killing anything. Those 鈥渂lack guns鈥 that might appear scary to the uninformed are used in a number of different competitions and fun target sports.
Ignorance is the enemy of us all, but its ugly head shows most consistently in attacks on anything associated with firearms and lawful recreational shooters. The attack against this paper and the legal business with which it chose to do business was unjustified and based on ignorance induced fear.
