Dear Editor,

Re: [LETTER: Local watching new PM closely, 91Ô´´ Advance Times, April 9]

I am answering letter writer Lois Hooks. She said, “the Trudeaus have ruined Canada.“

Excuse me, but Pierre Trudeau saved Canada in the 1970s.

When the treasonous FLQ murdered Pierre LaPorte, and kidnapped British diplomat James Cross, Trudeau invoked the War Measures Act. He was not about to let a fanatic group ruin the country.

The other great thing he did was put a cap on interest and mortgage rates when they were threatening to go to ridiculous levels, possibly reaching 20 per cent. We would have lost our house.

Perhaps Lois is too young to remember these things.
