Editor: Our family arrived in 91Ô´´ on July 24. We lost our home in Calgary, and my husband had noticed a job at West Arm Trucking and wanted to interview for the position.
We had our truck packed to the limits, and our two daughters were complaining that there was no space in the back seat with our St. Bernard pup Kyndra. As we left the motel we were staying at, we made space for the dog in the back and headed out to find West Arm Trucking.
We were lost on 100 Avenue and we turned towards Fort 91Ô´´. We were travelling 41 km/h. We then noticed other motorists honking and waving frantically. Jeff almost had an accident in his attempt to stop our truck, and we finally clued in the fact that the dog had fallen out of the truck.
Donald Scharf, my spouse, ran to the back of the truck to find Kyndra hanging like a St. Bernard on a rope, cut badly from being dragged when she could no longer run. We took her to Walnut Grove Animal Hospital for treatments that totalled $570. This was the last of our funds. It was actually an overdraft of our account.
Donald went to his interview while Kyndra was in surgery, and the interviewer told him they were thinking of someone else who had more experience than Donald’s four years at Nortel in warehousing equipment — but such is life.
It was my birthday. I was 46 years young, and all I could think of was my treasured St. Bernard.
We now live with my son in Vernon. We paid another $51 vet bill and I am doing the bandages myself.
I want to thank Jeff and the other caring motorists for stopping and taking the time out of their day to ensure Kyndra received the best care. I would also like to thank the staff of Walnut Grove Animal Hospital.
91Ô´´, you should be proud of your citizens. We sure are.
Kyndra is doing great, and this is mainly due to the fact that we were stopped in time. Thanks to all of you.
