Aldergrove competitors took home first place at the Mountain Regionals Synchronized Skating competition in Richmond last weekend, which includes teams from across B.C. and Alberta.
The Aldergrove Skating Club had three teams participating: Star 6 Snow Crystals, Star 8 Icicles, and Adult 2 Ice Spirits.
Club president Cashmere Roder said they hoped for at least second place for the Snow Crystals' Spiderman routine, but was pleasantly surprised when they won first.
"Our screams of shock and excitement rang throughout the building," she recalled.
The Icicles placed fourth with their Beetlejuice routine out of eight teams, missing the bronze by a mere 0.04 points.
"They skated their hearts out trying for a medal and making the red carpet, they were the top B.C. team," Roder said.
And the Ice Spirits placed sixth with their Flowers routine, taking third for the B.C. teams.
"These ladies worked very hard to represent Aldergrove," Roder commented.
Skaters will compete again in just a couple weeks at the West Coast Challenge, which the Aldergrove Skate Club is hosting at the community centre on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The event is open to the public. Admission is $5.
Aldergrove Skating Club offers a wide range skating programs all year, including learn to skate, synchronized skating, figure skating development and private lessons with certified professional coaches.
