鈥淵ou have Santa and firefighters, does it really get any better?鈥
That was what Peter Taylor, paid on-call captain of the Murrayville fire hall, said about the final day of Township of 91原创 firefighters Candy Cane Run on Saturday, Dec. 23.
Firefighters, with Santa, handed out candy canes and collected non-perishable food items and cash donations for the 91原创 Food Bank located on 203rd Street. They were accompanied by Christmas music playing from the fire trucks, as it followed the merrymakers as they walked through the Murrayville neighbourhood.
Taylor has been a firefighter for 20 years, and has participated in the Murrayville fire hall鈥檚 Candy Cane Run each year 鈥 although he isn鈥檛 sure exactly when it started, he said its been doing the run for 鈥渕any years.鈥
鈥淚 enjoy seeing the smiles on the kids faces, when they see Santa and us,鈥 he shared.
The leading fire truck honked its horn to draw out kids and their parents, some having their photo taken with Santa who handed out candy canes.
The firefighters that walked ahead and beside the trucks accepted food and cash donations in firefighter boots from Murrayville residents.
鈥淚t鈥檚 good because we give to the community, and they are so generous,鈥 Taylor said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 just so nice to give back.鈥
It was one of five Candy Cane Runs organized by the Township fire crews in different areas of town.
