91Ô´´ Township is hosting an open house on a planned future pool, rec centre, and library for central Willoughby later this month.

The new community centre is to be built in South Yorkson Community Park facing 80th Avenue.

The current proposals for the facility include:

• Aquatic centre with a 37.5m lap pool

• Leisure and hot pool

• Fitness centre

• Gymnasium

• Library

• Multipurpose rooms and other community recreation spaces

The open house will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 2:30-9 p.m. at Yorkson Middle School, 20686 84 Ave.

The public is being asked for input on the project, and on activities at the new facility.

If built, the project will become the fourth public pool, as well as the seventh library branch in the Township.

The project was one of the campaign promises of Mayor Eric Woodward and the Contract With 91Ô´´ slate on the current council.

Willoughby is the fastest growing, and as of a few years ago the most populous, neighbourhood in the Township.

The Township had previously been planning to build a new library branch in a space in the Willoughby Town Centre development, but that plan was dropped in favour of placing the new facility in a Township-built facility.
