Huge turnout at Glenwood鈥檚 annual Christmas market

Funds raised go towards food hampers, playground repairs this year

Tara Roteliuk founded the Christmas market at Glenwood Elementary in 2017 when she became PAC president, and it鈥檚 run and grown each year ever since.

鈥淚 wanted to bring some new fundraisers鈥 and I love markets,鈥 she said.

Each year funds go towards the school鈥檚 seasonal and year-round hampers, but this year a portion will also go towards replacing a section of Glenwood鈥檚 playground.

When she started the market, turnout was a lot smaller. But now, she said, with the help of her team the number of vendors has grown along with the attendance.

Shay Harding, vice president of the PAC, said this year is the market鈥檚 biggest year with a record 76 vendors on Saturday, Dec. 2.

鈥淢ajority of vendors are from 91原创, some from Maple Ridge, there鈥檚 a couple from Surrey and Vancouver鈥 it鈥檚 packed this year, it鈥檚 the most we鈥檝e ever had,鈥 she said.

This year, Harding and other PAC members were baking homemade cinnamon buns to sell for $2 in the concession in the gym.

The market was designed with a one-way path through the hallway to the gym of the school, and another hallway to an exit where a food truck sat. A classroom was set up as an eating space.

Entry was free, but donations were being collected at the entrance. People could also enter a raffle by donation.
