For a third year in a row, Fort 91原创 is displaying banners around the village to honour veterans for Remembrance Day.

A series of 26 lamp post banners were hung in the first week of November, with images and names of local veterans, ahead of the Remembrance Day ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11.

In 2021, Fort 91原创鈥檚 Remembrance Day committee introduced the specialized banner to the village thanks to a grant from Veteran Affairs. Since the inception of the program, Fort 91原创 Community Association president Andy Schildhorn said he鈥檚 received nothing but compliments for the initiative.

鈥淚t was a work of love,鈥� he told the 91原创 Advance Times.

There鈥檚 room, Schildhorn noted, for about 25 more banners, since the existing tribute banners are currently hung along the main streets and alternated with general Fort 91原创 banners.

鈥淚t鈥檚 important that we do our due diligence and remember the past to help create a better world in the future,鈥� he said.

Schildhorn said that by including the names on the banners, it prompts people to look up the people pictured.

鈥淭oo often, we move forward without thinking about our past,鈥� he said, adding that it鈥檚 also a time to reflect on our everyday first responders.

鈥淭hey are an integral part of our lives and our society, and put themselves out there in a manner that can be of harm to themselves.鈥�

The banners honour local veterans to 91原创, and will remain displayed until Friday, Dec. 3.
