A LEGO pumpkin similar to this one will be built at Abbotsford's Sevenoaks Shopping Centre on Oct. 18 and 19.

An enormous LEGO pumpkin will be constructed, displayed and then smashed in spectacular fashion at Abbotsford's Sevenoaks Shopping Centre as part of the mall's Halloween festivities.

LEGO certified professional Robin Sather will complete his build on Oct. 18 and 19, with the jack-o-lantern on display at the mall's centre court until Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.

When the clock strikes seven, the pumpkin will be destroyed in what is being called the Great Pumpkin Smash.

Sather is an Abbotsford resident The company began in 2004 and Sather was Canada's first LEGO certified professional. There are only 23 people on the planet with that certification.

He also will lead a make-and-take pumpkin build for 50 Lil鈥橭aks Kids Club members on Oct. 19. Members get the chance to make a little pumpkin with his help.

Prior to the great pumpkin smash, Sevenoaks hosts the Halloween Boo Bash on Oct. 31 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Families are encouraged to arrive at centre court in costume, design a trick or treat bag, get some spooky face paint, make friendship boo-bracelets, and enter the mall's Halloween costume contest. A trick or treat hunt follows, with five candy stations located throughout the mall.

Candy will be available while supplies last and retailers will not be handing out candy this year.

In other Sevenoaks news, the mall hosts a kids bee workshop on Oct. 25. Families are invited to drop by centre court that day to learn from the beekeepers that look after the mall's rooftop beehive. Attendees will get the chance to see and interact with the tools of the trade, ask real beekeepers questions, learn how the mall use bees as a sustainability initiative and more.
