The Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce has named the venue for their all-candidates meeting on April 16.
The Q&A session for candidates in the riding of Cloverdale-91原创 City will be held at 5 Star Catering on 188th and Highway 10 in Cloverdale.
Scott Wheatley, the Chamber鈥檚 executive director, said the date was chosen to get the Q&A session in ahead of advance voting, which opens on April 18 and runs for four days, ending on April 21.
Wheatley said he has two candidates booked, the NDP candidate and the Liberal candidate, and he expects to book the Green and PPC candidates soon.
Candidates for Cloverdale-91原创 City include: Vanessa Sharma (NDP), Kyle Latchford (Liberal), incumbent Tamara Jansen (Conservative), Jim McMurtry (People's Party of Canada), and Kevin Wilkie (Greens).
"I keep chasing down Tamara (Jansen), but I haven't heard back," Wheatley said. "I hope to find out by next week."
Jansen skipped the last federal all-candidates meeting ahead of the by-election last December for an unknown reason. She did not respond to emails or phone calls from the Cloverdale Reporter when this newspaper sought an explanation.
Wheatley said registration for the ACM will open at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting will run from 6 - 7:30 p.m.
"Seating is limited, so we're asking folks to pre-register," he added. "Walk-ins will be welcome, but seating will be based on availability."
Rebecca Smith will be once again be the moderator. Smith oversaw a Chamber-hosted ACM for the provincial election that saw big fireworks erupt between provincial Green candidate Pat McCutcheon and then provincial independent candidate Jim McMurtry. Smith had to call for order several times as she attempted to reel in both panel- and audience-member emotions to get the Q&A back on track.
Wheatley noted the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board will once again be a sponsor. (They sponsored the last provincial all-candidates meeting held at the Clova Theatre ahead of the B.C. provincial election and the federal all-candidates meeting held at 5 Star Catering ahead of the Dec.16 by-election.)
He also said all questions for the MP hopefuls must be submitted in advance. Questions must be emailed to sam@cloverdalechamber.ca by April 13.
