Chief Wannawin, the mascot of the former 91Ô´´ (now Chilliwack) Chiefs for more than two decades, is calling it a career.
Chilliwack’s home opener versus 91Ô´´ on Sept. 15 at Prospera Centre will mark Wannawin’s final appearance.
Debuting in the mid 1990s, Wannawin has attended nearly every Chiefs home game and traveled with the team to two Royal Bank Cup tournaments, 2000 in Fort McMurray, and 2002 in Halifax.
Wannawin has represented the Chiefs at hundreds of community events, and has been a favourite of children.
Several ‘facelifts’ over the years have helped him maintain his youthful and energetic appearance, but time has taken its toll.
A new mascot will take his place, debuting Oct. 6 at Prospera Centre when the Chiefs host the Wenatchee Wild.
