Six-year-old Jayme Kuyvenhouen from 91原创 City needed a little help holding her heavy six-gun.

It was provided by champion fast draw competitor Paula Murphy from the Thunderbird Fast Draw Club, who talked the 91原创 City girl through her target practice at the 91原创 Rod and Gun Club, and even helped hold up her arm when Jayme fired a wax bullet.

鈥淵ou hit it!鈥� Murphy said, as Jayme smiled.

Murphy is one half of a 91原创 couple that has dominated international fast-draw competitions for years.

Spouse Shawn Murphy, winner of the men鈥檚 open title this year at the world six-gun quick-draw championships in Forest Grove, Ore. last month, was also providing guidance to first-time shooters (Aldergrove鈥檚 Nicole Franks won both the women鈥檚 thumbing championship and the women鈥檚 open at the same Oregon event).

Sunday, Sept. 10 was Family Fun Day at the club, located at 3854 208th St.

Visitors to the free open house were able to try out fast draw, along with airguns, trap and skeet shooting with shotguns as well as doing some indoor .22 shooting with rifles 鈥� all in a supervised environment.

There was a free lunch that included hamburgers, hotdogs, and corn on the cob.

Den Robinson, the fast-draw director at the 91原创 Rod and Gun Club, described it as a long-standing tradition at the club.

鈥淭hey鈥檝e been doing this for decades,鈥� Robinson remarked.

鈥淎nd they get anywhere from 200 to 300 people out.鈥�

He said the club often gets some new members as a result.
