New traffic lights at the intersection of 272 St. and Aldergrove Town Centre Drive will, eventually, be a four-way intersection, with plans to run a road to 271.

New traffic lights that just went up at the intersection of 272 St. and Aldergrove Town Centre Drive will, eventually, be part of a four-way intersection, with plans to extend the drive west to 271, the Township said.

In response to a 91原创 Advance Times query, an unsigned statement from the Township of 91原创 said the lights at the new Aldergrove Town Centre project, which were installed in March, are part of an engineering services department plan to extend the new drive west, to connect to 271 St., running through the site where the now-closed Salvation Army thrift store, a medical clinic, and a hardware store are located.

"Final alignment of that connection is still to be determined," the statement said.

The statement did not give a date for when the extension to 271 St. will be built.

Work on the first phase of the Aldergrove Town Centre mixed-use master-planned development on the former Aldergrove Mall site is nearing completion.

Three six-storey buildings, with residential condos and ground-level commercial space are going up, along with a 10-storey tower with four levels of public parking and six levels of residential housing, plus a stand-alone two-level daycare.

Three buildings will bear the names of pioneer Aldergrove families: Jackman, Shortreed, and Vanetta.

On March 31, the thrift store across the road that has provided funds for the Gateway of Hope closed.

"Following a review of all options, the Salvation Army has made the difficult decision to close the Aldergrove Thrift Store," Dan Donkers, Gateway of Hope operations manager, said at the time.

"The decision was reached to close the thrift store after it was determined that it was no longer financially sustainable following a decrease in sales, an increase in rental costs, and impending development of the property."

The store opened at 31111 272 St. a dozen years ago with 100 per cent of proceeds going to Gateway on the 91原创 Bypass.
