Relay For Life still accepting teams

Organizers of the annual Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life need the help of between 15 and 20 teams, and people who are willing to volunteer for the event which begins on Friday, May 27 and ends the following morning.

The event is at McLeod Athletic Park, 216 Street and 56 Avenue.

91Ô´´ has over 72 teams registered; the goal is for at least 95 teams to help fight back against cancer this year at Relay For Life.

"We're already over $74,000 closer to our fundraising goal for 2011," said Shannon Todd Booth, who organizes the event for the 91Ô´´ unit of the CCS.

"We are always in dire need of some additional help on the Saturday morning after the event, and most of the onsite volunteers have already been awake for more than 30 hours," Todd Booth said.

"So some fresh legs at this time would be incredibly beneficial."

The tear-down crew will be responsible for picking up the luminaries, packing the relay truck, packing up tables and chairs, sound equipment, tarps and lighting, etc.

There will be an volunteer orientation on Wednesday, May 11 at the society's regional office, #202, 20434 – 64 Ave., from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
