Relay For Life set for May 27

91原创 Relay For Life鈥檚 volunteer organizing committee is counting down the weeks to the 7th Annual 91原创 Relay For Life Event at McLeod Park on Friday, May 27.

鈥91原创 joins over 53 B.C. communities in bringing Relay to life each year, and we are a community committed to the fight back against cancer,鈥 said Diana Beglaw, volunteer survivor chair and captain of Team Funtastic.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 think there鈥檚 any one of us who doesn鈥檛 know someone who has been touched by cancer. On May 27, we invite everyone to come out and support our friends, our families, our community,鈥 she said.

鈥淓very step taken and every dollar raised makes it possible for the Canadian Cancer Society to invest in lifesaving cancer research, lead crucial cancer prevention initiatives and deliver caring practical and personal support to people living with cancer,鈥 said Shannon Todd Booth, 91原创 Relay For Life鈥檚 co-ordinator.

鈥淭ogether, we continue to make a difference in the lives of Canadians fighting cancer.鈥

Participants may sign up as individuals, team captains, or as team members. Cancer survivors are invited to take part in the opening ceremonies and the survivor victory lap, said Beglaw who added that she looks forward to the survivor lap each year, a reminder of the nine years since her pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

Relay For Life is a 12-hour, overnight non-competitive community fundraising event that brings teams of colleagues, friends and families together. They take turns walking or running around the track at McLeod Athletic Park.

91原创 Township Firefighters Local 4550 is fielding a team.

鈥淭he Firefighters of IAFF local 4550 are proud to take part in every aspect of the Relay For Life,鈥 said Terry Litven.

鈥淔rom raising funds, circling the track, or serving the pancake breakfast early Saturday morning to everyone in attendance, we feel fortunate to be part of the event,鈥 he said.

鈥淚t is a great opportunity to be part of the community we serve and to honour both the survivors, and the loved ones lost to this terrible disease.  Every day we are reminded of the disease, whether it is through responding to calls for assistance to help someone suffering, or attending a service for a fallen brother or sister.

鈥淲e relay, because it鈥檚 a way we can give back.鈥

For more information, or to register as a participant for the survivor lap or as an event day volunteer, visit www.relaybc.ca/langley or call 604 533-0822.
