More and more seniors are struggling financially and the 91原创 Senior Resources Society Centre has launched a campaign to help them.

鈥淲e know that the pandemic disproportionally affected the well-being of seniors. As we slowly recovered, there came a sharp rise in inflation and higher costs for goods, services, and housing. These changes have been extremely difficult for seniors in our community, especially those living on a limited and/or fixed income. The holiday season can be a tough time 鈥 if they have no family or cannot afford the things that many of us take for granted 鈥 a special meal, a few gifts, and loved ones to share these with,鈥 said Kate Ludlam, the centre鈥檚 executive director.

Now the inflationary economy is hitting their pockebooks as many try to stretch their dollars for basic needs including rent, food, and medication.

The seniors centre is seeing more and more people come in with significant financial concerns.

鈥淪ometimes it鈥檚 help finding affordable housing or assistance navigating the myriad of government programs 鈥 perhaps they need help getting to medical appointments or just need a friendly visit. Seniors often face unique challenges, such as isolation and loneliness, which can impact their overall well-being,鈥 said Smitty Miller, the manager of programs and member services.

In addition to the programs the centre has to help local seniors, it will have the Season to Share fundraising campaign with a goal to bring in $15,000.

鈥淲hether it is isolation or loneliness, food security or housing, the 91原创 Senior Resources Society is here to support, empower, and connect seniors throughout our community,鈥 Ludlam said.

Anyone able to help is asked to contact the centre at 604-530-3020, visit in person at 20605 51B Ave., or go to www.lsrs.ca.

The senior centre offers an array of social, recreational, and educational programs as well as community services.
