People 50 and older can try everything from painting to dance, pickleball to aquafit

Local groups have planned lots of activities for Seniors’ Week, and those 50 years or older and looking to try out what’s offered in the community have lots of choices each day between June 3 and 9.

There is a variety of free programs and events celebrating the young and young at heart.

To participate, register for a free City Senior’s Week Activity Pass at the Timms Community Centre, 604-514-2940.

Registration is required for most Township and City programs and activities offered during Seniors’ Week, unless otherwise specified.

Monday, June 3

• Rise & Shine Breakfast – 8:30 to 10 a.m. Guests City Mayor Nathan Pachal, Township Mayor Eric Woodward, newly appointed BC Seniors Advocate Dan Levitt, and other dignitaries. Registration required: 604-530-3020. $10 (breakfast buffet). 91Ô­´´ Senior Resources Society (LSRS)

• Chair Yoga – 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A free demo class that can be done while seated or standing using a chair for balance. This class is ideal for those who cannot stand for long periods of time or for those who cannot comfortably get down to the floor. • Life Drawing Workshop – 11:15 a.m. to noon. Learn to capture the human form in this collaborative art class with 91Ô­´´ Arts Council. This special seniors week workshop will introduce the principals of expressive life drawing and a brief overview of the artistic philosophy guiding the class. Using a live model, participants will get a demonstration of basic techniques; including contour drawing, composition structure, and value study. Timed exercise will focus on simplifying the human figure into basic shapes and capturing its essential energy through quick gestural sketches. $20 per person, includes supplies.
