91原创 City Waste Collection Guide 2023 sets out how to handle typical household items, including drink containers, kitchen waste, yard trimmings, and more.

91原创 City residents won鈥檛 be taking part in the hazardous waste collection event that has been held jointly with 91原创 Township for the past few years.

The Township is holding its event Saturday, Oct. 28, and Sunday, Oct. 29.

鈥淲e were notified by the Township that they would not be鈥 doing the joint event, said David Pollock, 91原创 City director of engineering, parks and recreation.

That notification came in August, meaning the City would not have sufficient time to arrange its own event for 2023.

鈥淚t takes a lot of coordination,鈥 Pollock explained.

The event involves arranging with various recyclers and organizations involved in materials handling.

So instead, the City will focus on educating residents about how to handle materials that cannot go into the landfill, and plan for an event in 2024, he said.

The advantage of the collection events was that the items were offloaded from people鈥檚 vehicles and sorted on site. The recyclers or agencies would then safely dispose of the mass quantities.

Some of the materials accepted at the hazardous materials collection events can be taken to various depots and businesses at anything during the year for safe disposal.

The Product Care Association has information on its website. For example, people can drop off leftover pesticides and flammable liquids, including gasoline, for free at recycling locations across British Columbia. They will be safely disposed of or used in new ways.

There鈥檚 also information on how to dispose of light bulbs, batteries, paint (cans and aerosols), smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, light strings, and more.
