91原创 Township residents with batteries, pesticides, and light bulbs awaiting disposal in their garages can clean them out at the end of this month.

The Township is again hosting its annual Household Hazardous Waste Plus Collection event, this year Saturday, Oct. 28 and Sunday, Oct. 29 at George Preston Recreation Centre, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

A wide variety of items that can鈥檛 be disposed of in curbside recycling are accepted at the event, including motor oil, electronics, solvents, and more.

鈥淔or more than 20 years, Township residents have used these collection events as an opportunity to clear out items taking up space around their homes. Some of these household products contain materials that become dangerous if they are disposed of improperly in the trash, down the toilet, in the sink, or buried in yards,鈥 said Christopher Combe, environmental sustainability coordinator for the Township of 91原创. 鈥淭he Household Hazardous Waste Plus Collection Event is a chance to recycle or dispose of these unwanted items safely in one place.鈥

Visitors to the event are urged to bring non-perishable food items for the Aldergrove Food Bank.

During the event, staff will unload waste from truck beds or vehicle trunks. Items passed through doors or windows will not be accepted. Drivers should enter the site off 208th Street.

All liquid items must be in secure containers and cannot be leaking.

Anyone planning to attend is encouraged to review the Preferred Packing Order diagram at .

All drop-offs must be drive-through, and walk-ins will not be permitted.

The event attracts hundreds of cars, and Combe warned that line-ups are possible. He noted that many of the items can be recycled at local depots as well.

鈥淩esidents can skip the line at this event by choosing to bring many items to depots and participating retailers year-round,鈥 said Combe.

Motor oil, thermostats, and smoke alarms are among the most common items dropped off at the annual events, and Combe said all can be recycled elsewhere, if necessary.

The collection event is for Township residents only, and a driver鈥檚 license or utility bill is required as ID of local residency.
