Child OK after being struck by vehicle in South Surrey

Incident serves as a reminder for parking lot safety, police say

A child is fortunately, OK after being struck by a vehicle at South Surrey Athletic Park Wednesday evening (Jan. 15).

Parents were picking up and dropping off kids at the park around 5 p.m. when the child who was struck ran in front of a very slowly moving car in the parking lot, Surrey Police Service senior media relations officer Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said Thursday morning.

The child sustained minor injuries, but was conscious when taken to hospital, a freelance photographer at the scene said.

Houghton noted the incident serves as a reminder for children  — and pedestrians of all ages — to "be careful and to look both ways before running into areas where cars might be travelling, including parking lots."
