91原创 City wants people to head to McBurney Plaza during lunchtime on Wednesdays and Fridays to play.

The Lunch and Lounge pilot project will be every Wednesday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., through to Sept. 1, with fun activities, games, and music for business professionals, seniors, and people of all ages.

The project stems from the City鈥檚 desire for more people to discover the benefits of living and working in 91原创 City, and the increasing desire to bring more appealing opportunities to the downtown core.

鈥淲e encourage everyone, including visitors, to drop by and check out the variety of fun programs we have to offer,鈥 said Mayor Ted Schaffer.

People will find colourful Adirondack patio chairs for lounging, and an array of games and activities to enjoy.

At the first session, some people played checkers with pieces the size of dinner plates while others made glitter slime from glue, baking soda and other basic ingredients. The activities will change and recreational staff are on scene for any questions.

McBurney Plaza was selected for this pilot project as a result of its central location between Fraser Highway and Douglas Crescent.

鈥淎s part of our commitment to continually improve quality of life in 91原创 City, we鈥檙e pleased and excited to offer these new initiatives,鈥 he said.

City council approved a plan at its June 26 council meeting to offer initiatives about the downtown.

McBurney Plaza鈥檚 redevelopment is the first initiative to proceed, with the intention to enhance diversity and promote urban living. The City will also look at creating evening events with the Downtown 91原创 Business Association.
