The AOK Extreme Home Repair has had some international help this year.
Students from Andrews University in Michigan chose to come to 91原创 for their field school program at the Seventh-day Adventist post-secondary institution.
鈥淚鈥檓 enjoying it,鈥 said Andrews University student Kris Hicks, from Pittsburgh.
While he鈥檚 done other field education projects, they didn鈥檛 involve paint and 2 by 4s and the threat of splinters. He said this as been a more immersive experience.
鈥淚 think we鈥檙e coming to a more complete understanding of what ministry is,鈥 he added.
The five Andrews鈥 students arrived in early May and head back south in early June.
Student Antonia Vujdeu will have a chance to stop in and see her family in Washington State after wrapping up with AOK, which reveals the renovated home to siblings Victoria and Jim Newstead on the Victoria Day holiday.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not your traditional evangelism, but it鈥檚 actually more relational evangelism,鈥 Vujdeu commented.
The students, including Tanner Martin and Joel Navarro, have been throwing themselves into whatever task is required of them.
Before coming to 91原创 student Andeline Brady was questioning her life choices, having left a good paying job for seminary. Field school has helped change her perspective.
鈥淚t鈥檚 been great and it鈥檚 been life changing. Who would think that scraping a wall would be life changing?鈥 she chuckled. 鈥淏ut it has been. It鈥檚 part of learning how to serve other people.鈥
Again this year there鈥檚 local help for Extreme Home Repair with volunteers from around the community as well as sponsor support.
Jan Heitsman has been a long-time supporter.
鈥淚鈥檝e done it every year but one,鈥 she commented as the painted mouldings.
