Giant pumpkin growers rely on a few things to make their pumpkins mammoth 鈥� lots of sun, good seeds, good soil, hard work, leaving only one fruit per plant, and luck.
People can see the results of their work at the Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off this Saturday as well as watch master pumpkin carver Bruce Waugh on site (between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.).
In fact they can see the sanctioned weigh off to determine the biggest gourd going, as well as other monster-sized produce. The event includes giant (Atlantic) pumpkins, giant squash, largest field (regular) pumpkins, longest gourds, giant tomatoes and largest watermelons, all of which will be put on the scales.

The event is the only world-recognized giant pumpkin weigh-off in Western Canada (the next closest is in Manitoba) and is the BC鈥檚 Official Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (GPC) and Certified World Recognized Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off.
The event is free to the public and takes place at Krause Berry Farms and Estate Winery, 6179 248th St. on Oct. 7. The farm will have pumpkins for people to buy as well there鈥檚 vendors and food.
Entrants will star bringing their produce in as early as 9:30 a.m. with the weighing starting at 11 a.m. Winners are expected to be announced around 2 p.m., depending on the number of entries.
There are prizes for heaviest pumpkin, prettiest giant pumpkin, heaviest giant squash, longest gourd, top giant tomato, largest watermelon, and largest field (regular) pumpkin.
