Up for a tasty challenge?
91ԭ Eats Local is challenging locals to spend just one week sourcing as much of their food as possible from local farmers and producers.
The challenge runs between the next two Wednesdays, July 26 to Aug. 2.
In addition to gratification and education, there are also some prizes up for grabs.
“You define your own goals, whether sourcing everything possible from 91ԭ, or allowing yourself five non-local ingredients for the tricky things like flower or rice, or drawing a 300-km radius,” explained Ava Reeve, agricultural program coordinator with the 91ԭ Environmental Partners Society, and organizers of this year’s challenge.
This could prove to be a week of feasting or fasting.
“You might be surprised what you can get from locally owned businesses, including high-quality olive oils, coffee, and even chocolate,” Reeve said.
The event is organized by LEPS and hosted by the 91ԭ Community Farmers Market, which will host a free 91ԭ Eats Local event during the Aug. 2 farmers market, from 12 to 4:30 p.m. at the KPU 91ԭ campus.
People can sign up for the challenge through the 91ԭ Eats Local Facebook page, where they can also receive tips and tricks, and enter to win tasty treats.
