7-year-old entrepreneur expands her 91原创 City business

Business is good for Adair Hoag, who founded Adair鈥檚 Fresh Leaf Herbs

Business is good, Adair Hoag says, with her unique herbal tea and seasoning blends selling well at 91原创 City's BIPOC + Local Marketplace.

"They had to restock my shelf today because I was selling so much," said the seven-year-old founder of . She convinced the store to carry her products in late January.

"I wanted to start a business, since child labour is illegal and entrepreneurialism is the only career option for children," Adair told the 91原创 Advance Times.

Adair's mom,Celene Hoag, said her daughter spent a lot of her time growing up in the family garden, and became passionate about herbalism at the age of three after reading the Herb Fairies series of magical adventure books for children.

"She started creating her own unique herbal tea and seasoning blends based on her knowledge of herbalism, and what tastes good," Celene said.

"She just ended up making so much that she decided she wanted to sell it, because friends and family were asking if they could have some of what she was making."

"I'm really proud of Adair, because she really has been working nonstop to create all these different products," her mom shared.

"She always tries different flavour combinations. Things that as adults, we wouldn't think would necessarily go together, or would think to put together," Celene continued..

"Because we have these set ideas of flavours that kind of belong together. But she experiments in all sorts of ways. So she ends up coming up with things that you don't see on shelves, like her Remember Tea that's rosemary and sage and blackberries. You would never find at a grocery store a tea that's rosemary, sage, and blackberries. But it's delicious."

Adair started as a vendor at the 91原创 Farmer's Market, where her products sold well.

Then, late last year, she decided she wanted to sell in retail stores, and approached BIPOC + Local to see if they would carry her products, and they said yes.

She is having fun with her business, but doubts she will make it her career.

"A couple more years I think I'll do this, but I actually want to do something else when I grow up," Adair remarked.

BIPOC + Local, a store devoted to supporting small businesses, is located at 5490 Salt Lane Ave. and online at .
