91原创 mall renovation earns industry kudos

A facelift on a downtown 91原创 strip mall has garnered industry kudos.

Fraser 206, the 30-plus-year-old development at 206th Street and Fraser Highway, was one of several building projects in the Fraser Valley that were recognized during the seventh annual Fraser Valley Commercial Building Awards.

The awards were presented Thursday, Nov. 2 during an evening awards ceremony at the Cascades Casino in 91原创.

There were categories in the annual celebration of the best in commercial, industrial, and revenue producing buildings from Delta to Chilliwack, completed between January 1, 2016 and August 31, 2017.

There were 31 finalists, explained organizer Mark MacDonald.

Frasers 206 was just one of them.

Elevate Development Corporation鈥檚 efforts to refurbish this old and partially deserted retail corner took just a few months.

鈥淚鈥檇 like to say we鈥檙e going to be a catalyst for more of this [redevelopment],鈥 said owner Gord MacPherson.

鈥淕iven how positive the support of the mayor has been and the staff, I鈥檇 say it [Fraser 206] has a real bright future. It鈥檚 been a good project and we鈥檙e very proud of how it鈥檚 turned out,鈥 he previously told the 91原创 Advance.

Among its new tenants, 1 Fish 2 Fish opened recently to much fanfare.

While Fraser 206 won in the retail renovation category, there were only two other 91原创 project that earned accolades.

Meridian Condominiums in 91原创 City received the award for the best wood construction project.

Meanwhile, Lot Living received runner-up recognition in the best multi-family category.

The Flatiron Building in Abbotsford won the judges鈥 choice best overall entry.

Flatiron, at 2539 Montrose Avenue, was an Algra Bros. Developments project, and also won the retail category.

Another Algra Bros. project, Brixton Station in Chilliwack, won the award of excellence in row homes.
