Warriors earn split on Vancouver Island road trip

The 91Ô­´´ Warriors began defence of their West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association title with a weekend split.

The Warriors senior B lacrosse team needed overtime, but prevailed 8-7 over the Nanaimo Timbermen in a . That game was Saturday (May 6) at Nanaimo’s Frank Crane Arena.

91Ô­´´ wrapped up their tw0-game Vancouver Island road trip with a 8-7 loss the next day in Victoria to the Wolves.

The Warriors won’t have to wait long to avenge that loss as they host Victoria on Saturday (May 13) at the George Preston Recreation Centre. Game starts at 4:30 p.m.

Brad Olsen’s power-play goal 1:54 into overtime was the winner against the Timbermen.

91Ô­´´ trailed 3-2 after 20 minutes but scored four times in the second to lead 6-4 after 40 minutes.

The rest of the offence came off the sticks of Tanner Olsen (four goals, one assist) and Geordie Wells (three goals, one assist).

Olsen and Kerry Susheski both had two assists while Ryley Brown made 20 saves for the victory.

Wells registered a hat trick against Victoria, but that was not enough as 91Ô­´´ was on the short end of the 8-7 score.

Derek Lowe (one goal, two assists), Susheski (one goal, three assists) and Ian Poole (one goal, one assist) had the other Warriors goals.

Brown made 29 saves in the loss.
