VIDEO: Rams first home game a lopsided victory

Fans fill stands at McLeod Athletic Park

It wasn't exactly close.

91Ô­´´ Rams racked up 660 total offensive yards to win their home opener against Prince George Kodiaks on Saturday, Aug 3, a lopsided 42-7 victory before a near-capacity crowd at the 2,200-seat stadium in McLeod Athletic Park.

Rams improved their record to 1-1 in week three of the new British Columbia Football Conference season, while the Kodiaks slipped to 1-2.

On the ground,  Rams recorded 371 yards led by Reggie Elie who rushed for 111 on eight carries and scored two touchdowns.  Jayden Sak and Bruce Jones also had rushing majors.

In the air, quarterback Palaina Hooper completed 12 passes for 296 yards and threw touchdowns to Terrel Jones and Natol Tadesse.  Jones was Hooper’s favourite target as he gained 139 yards on four catches. 

Defensively the Rams held the Kodiaks to 165 yards of total offence and forced three turnovers. Keyshawn Beswick and Jalen York each intercepted a pass and the Rams collected four sacks in total. 

The Kodiaks lone touchdown came late in the fourth quarter when back-up quarterback Quinn Neukomm hit Jordan Brady-Williams for a 26-yard touchdown strike. 

Next weekend, Rams will visit the VI Raiders.

91Ô­´´'s next home game is against Valley Huskers Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, 4 p.m. at McLeod, the second annual Rams Family Day

The 2024 schedule will see each of the seven member BCFC teams play a 10-game schedule over 12 weeks, wrapping up  Oct. 5.

Last year, the Rams season ended when they fell to the top ranked team in the country, the Westshore Rebels, at Starlight Stadium in Langford, a 40-14 defeat in the CJFL Canadian Bowl Playoffs.
