VIDEO: 91原创 Trappers win second crosstown match against Aldergrove Kodiaks

Aldergrove goalie had a busy afternoon

91原创 Trappers now lead the Hockey Day in 91原创 series two games to none this season following their 4-1 win over the Aldergrove Kodiaks at George Preston arena on Sunday, Oct. 22.

Jack Valliant, with an assist from Devyn Hayre, scored first for Aldergrove early in the game at 6:44 of the first, but it would prove to be the only Kodiaks goal that afternoon.

Sahilpreet Deol, with Samuel Brown and Cash Dumka-Jones assisting, responded for the Trappers at 11:28 to tie the game.

Late in the second frame, Liam Bressette, with Mason Russell and Justin Sumners, scored at 15:19 to take the lead, and in the third, Patrick Coopman, assisted by Michael Bottrell and Justin Sumners widened the gap at 10:08, then Markus Janssens, with Samuel Brown and Michael Bottrell scored at 12:05.

Kodiaks netminder Kyle Spak was a lot busier than Trappers rival Maddox Osaka as Trappers outshot Kodiaks 45 to 23.

All three stars of the game were Trappers: Dumka-Jones (first), Brown (second) and Osaka (third).

Aldergrove Kodiaks GM Rick Harkins noted the teams was 鈥渋n it鈥 for two periods, 鈥渁nd then, you know, we just couldn鈥檛 hold on.鈥

He credited Spak for keeping the Kodiaks in the game.

鈥淥ur goalie held us in there as much as he could,鈥 Harkins remarked.

鈥淲e just got beat by a better team. You know, they got a little more depth than we do right now. It鈥檚 games like that that are gonna make it better [for our players],鈥 he added.

鈥淓very time they scar a little bit, they get stronger for it.鈥

In their first meeting of the season, also at George Preston, Trappers downed Kodiaks 6-1 on Sunday, Oct. 1, a game where the Trappers outshot Kodiaks 56 to 27.

Trappers are currently third in the seven-team Harold Brittain Conference of the Pacific Junior Hockey League, while Kodiaks are sixth.

Up next: Kodiaks host Abbotsford Pilots Wednesday, Oct. 25 at Aldergrove Credit Union Community Arena at 7:15 p.m. followed by a Sunday visit to play Chilliwack Jets 5:30 p.m. at the Sardis Sports Complex.

Trappers were to host the Jets Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. at George Preston arena, then play the Delta Ice Hawks on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 7:35 p.m.
