VIDEO: 42 teams play in 4th Jean Adams tournament in 91原创

U7 and U9 players from across the province took part in LMHA event

This year's fourth annual Jean Adams Memorial tournament drew UI7 and U9 players from across the province, including 91原创, Aldergrove, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, New West, Ridge Meadows, Nanaimo, and Kamloops to play a guaranteed minimum of four games over three days from March 21-23 at the 91原创 Sportsplex.

"This year, we have 42 teams participating from multiple associations," said Shelley Rosner, vice-president, administration of the 91原创 Minor Hockey Association (LMHA).

"It's been incredible."

All four rinks at the Sportsplex were busy, with two U7 games at a time on single rinks, which were divided into two half-size playing surfaces, while the U9 games took place one at a time on full-size ice.

With a stated intent of providing "a fun, safe, and fair hockey environment for all participants," the tournament was more about having  fun than who wins and loses, with rules that included a goal limitation of three per player.  Anything more than three was not counted.

The event is dedicated to the memory of Jean Adams, a lifetime member of LMHA who passed away in February of 2021.

Adams is remembered as an integral part of LMHA, serving as a team mom, division manager, secretary and registrar.

鈥淪he was passionate, caring, and always willing to support in whatever capacity needed. As registrar, Jean was often a family鈥檚 first introduction to LMHA and they were always treated with kindness, knowledge and patience as she navigated them through the registration process, answering any questions along the way. Jean knew her players and kept tabs on them year over year, always able to share a kind word or story with pride.鈥

Adams was the recipient of the PCAHA Meritorious Service Award in 2005 and the PCAHA Golden Puck Award in 2017.

An online LMHA biography described her as a 鈥渃ommitted, selfless volunteer whose dedication and service to minor hockey is unparalleled.鈥

She was a kidney transplant recipient, and in her honour, the Kidney Foundation, BC & Yukon Branch was the charity of choice for the event.

The LMHA page devoted to the tournament at includes a link for making donations.
