Like they do most Novembers, the Credo Christian Kodiaks added yet another Fraser Valley senior boys volleyball championship banner to their collection.
On Friday night, the Kodiaks won their seventh straight Single A banner with a 3-0 straight sets dismantling of the Unity Christian Flames.
The match was played at Credo Christian, with the Kodiaks winning by scores of 25-11, 25-23 and 25-14.
Eric Super, the team鈥檚 middle, was named most valuable player, while right-side hitter Ben Togeretz and Nathan van Delden, the setter, were all-stars.
While winning the Fraser Valley banner was no major revelation 鈥 the team cruised through league play unbeaten 鈥 they enter the provincial championships next week in Kelowna as the top seed.
The tournament runs Nov. 30 to Dec. 3 at UBC Okanagan.
They are also looking for their second straight gold medal and sixth medal in the past seven seasons.
The Kodiaks do have a couple of returnees from the 2010 championship squad, although they played supporting roles last season.
鈥淭his is a pretty fresh team,鈥 said Credo coach Stan de Haan.
That doesn鈥檛 mean the expectations aren鈥檛 to finish atop the podium. Credo has spent the bulk of the season ranked tops in the province among Single A schools.
鈥淚 think these guys have a lot of potential,鈥 de Haan said.
As for what it will take, de Haan said it is all in his players鈥 heads.
鈥淲e need a lot of mental focus,鈥 he said, admitting the team has struggled with that at points in the season with little lapses here and there.
鈥淭here are games we should have won and we didn鈥檛 because we made little mistakes that we shouldn鈥檛.鈥
