A three-time NCAA all-American track and field athlete will be training with the in the new year. Kyle Neilsen will train with the Mustangs track and field club鈥檚 high performance throws program. It is headed up by his father, Tom Neilsen.
Neilsen captured the silver medal in the javelin at the 2011 Canadian track and field championships and threw a personal best of 77.24 metres to set a new school record at the .
The 22-year-old, who is finished his university eligibility, competed that the in the summer, placing 10th.
Nielsen is working towards qualifying to represent Canada at the Summer Olympics.
Also joining the Mustangs throws program is 20-year-old Tiffany Perkins from Abbotsford.
Perkins placed 11th at 2010 world junior championships in the javelin.
