The 91原创 Junior A Thunder have finalized the coaching and management staff for the team just over four months away from the start of games in the BC Junior A Lacrosse League.
Matt Beers takes the reins as head coach while Curt Malawsky and Jason Goller serve as assistants.
鈥淚 have been fortunate to play for some amazing coaches as well as playing with some of the best players at the professional level, and I am still learning every time I step on the floor,鈥 Beers said. 鈥淚 want to grow and learn with this group of young men, with the goal of eventually competing for the Minto Cup.鈥
鈥淭o win a championship, ultimately you build from the back end out. Taking care of the ball and valuing possessions will be a point of emphasis,鈥 he added. 鈥淎nd the offence will have the privilege of being coached by the best lacrosse mind in the game in Curt.鈥
General manager Rob Buchan welcomed the trio, saying "their collective experience, passion, and dedication to lacrosse will be key to achieving our goals this season. We are confident that this team will not only push the boundaries of what鈥檚 possible on the floor but also create a lasting culture of excellence for 91原创 Junior A Thunder.鈥
鈥淭his dynamic group combines decades of experience, proven success and a shared commitment to driving the organization to new heights,鈥 he said.
Beers is in his 13th professional season in the National Lacrosse League, serving as an assistant captain with the Vancouver Warriors.
Malawsky is Beers鈥 head coach in the NLL.
Goller takes on the dual role of assistant coach and assistant general manager. Goller was the head coach of the 91原创 Thunder team which won the gold medal at the BC Lacrosse Association Minor Box Lacrosse U17 Provincial Championships. Many of those players have graduated to Junior lacrosse.
The management team consists of Buchan with Ryan Williams and Nauja Winkler as the assistant general managers. Kevin Mykle is the team鈥檚 director of operations.
