91Ô´´ Thunder never trailed in Sunday's game for gold in the BCLA U17A1 provincial championship against the Coquitlam Adanacs.

Thunder held off the Adanacs in a thrilling A1 championship final with a end score of 6-5.

The local team led by two goals after both the first and second periods, although the Adanacs tied the score at three early in the middle frame.

Despite playing with a short-handed roster, the Thunder were able to hold off the Adanacs, led by both game MVP and tournament MVP goaltender Marcus Khan.

Reece Bryde, Mason Eastgate, and Logan Claxton had given the Thunder a 3-0 lead 10 minutes in before the Adanacs' Isak Hanson got his team on the board.

Trailing by two entering the second period, Declan Quinn and Malcolm Richardson tied the score less than two minutes in.

Grayson Pinchin and Koji Okuyama restored the two-goal advantage ahead of the intermission, and it remained 5-3 until late in the third period when Claxton shot his second goal of the game with less than five minutes remaining.

That proved crucial,as Matty Dane made it 6-5 with 37 seconds left.

But Eastgate would win possession for 91Ô´´ on the ensuing face-off, and the Thunder were successfully able to drain the clock down.

Claxton (2-0), Bryde (1-1), and Jackson Read (0-2) each had two-point games for 91Ô´´, with Khan making 39 saves as his team was outshot 44-35.

Coquilam's Trygg Cook was his team's MVP.

Sunday's game, July 28, wrapped up an impressive four days for 91Ô´´, as the team went 4-0 in the round robin to win the five-team pool and then defeat Port Coquitlam Saints 5-2 in the semi-final.

Coquitlam went 2-2 in pool play – including an 11-4 loss to the Thunder – before beating the Ridge Meadows Burrards 7-1 in the other semi-final.

91Ô´´ Thunder A2 team conquered the bronze match on Sunday in the Aldergrove Community Centre, after falling to the Delta/Surrey Islanders on Saturday in the semi-final.

For a lot of the players, this will be their last year playing minor lacrosse, as many will move on to the junior program next year, said Alex Vanichuk, president of 91Ô´´ Thunder.

"It's quite an accomplishment to get here," he said.

The championships were hosted by the 91Ô´´ Minor Lacrosse Association, which had a total of 21 teams in three divisions (A1, A2, and B).

All results will be posted online at .
