91原创 91原创 returned home this past weekend to take on two Vancouver Island opponents, the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Saturday and Cowichan Valley Capitals on Sunday at the George Preston Arena.
Friday鈥檚 game started out well for the visitors as Samuel Leonard redirected a puck home in front of the 91原创 net to give the Bulldogs a lead 1-0 2:13 into the game.
Shortly after the Bulldogs goal, newest 91原创 Ben Portner had a great breakaway opportunity that was stymied by Bulldogs netminder Colin Winn.
91原创 tied it at 12:37 on a great play by Jackson Krill who carried the puck all the way from his own zone to the Bulldogs end and fired a shot past the blocker side of Winn to make it 1-1.
However, the Bulldogs would score with 5 minutes and change to go in the first period to lead 2-1 after 20.
Grayson Badger would put his team ahead 3-1 early in the second period.
Ryan Schelling scored his 25th of the season less than two minutes after the Bulldogs third on a 91原创enal forehand backhand deke.
It would be all Bulldogs later in the period, as they scored three unanswered to lead 6-2 after 40 minutes of play.
Krill would nab his second of the game 1:37 into the third period on a great drop pass from Schelling, making it a three-goal margin at 6-3 with plenty of time remaining in the game.
Alberni Valley would score two goals in 30 seconds, and would hold off any chances of a comeback for 91原创 from there on out and it would finish 8-3 Bulldogs in the two team鈥檚 final game of the season.
Sunday鈥檚 game started well for the visiting Capitals as they grabbed the first goal 2:17 into the game, on a redirection behind the 91原创 net.
91原创 had a good response to the Cowichan goal with a breakaway and earning a power play of their own, but the Capitals scored to make it 2-0 with 11:30 gone in the first period and that鈥檚 where it would stand going into the second period.
Midway through the second period, 91原创 would cut the deficit to one with a goal from former Capital Ben Portner. It started with a great pass from Sebastian Bradshaw who fed Ryan Schelling below the goal line who fed Portner out front and the newest 91原创 did the rest scoring his first for 91原创, and 16th of the season.
Cowichan鈥檚 Hayden Russell scored a controversial goal with 3:38 to go in the second period, after a review for goaltender interference it would stand for his second of the game and Cowichan would lead 3-1 after 40.
Davids Livsics scored a highlight reel goal 51 seconds into the third, as falling to his knees he slid the puck under Erick Roest to make it 3-2.
Six minutes later Owen Thomas let a wrister fly from just inside the blueline that beat Roest under his right arm to make it 3-3.
37 seconds later, Jackson Krill scored a beautiful individual effort, collecting the puck in the neutral zone, skating in behind the Capitals net and wrapping the puck around past Roest making it 4-3 91原创.
The lead would stand for 8 minutes, but Cowichan would score two goals in 17 seconds to lead 5-4, and added two into the empty net to take the two team鈥檚 third meeting of the season 7-4.
The 91原创 are back in action next weekend, playing the Surrey Eagles at the South Surrey Arena on Saturday and returning home Sunday at 2:30 p.m. to take on that same Eagles team
