The bounced back from a first period 2-0 deficit to take a 6-5 win over the Ridge Meadows Flames, Sept. 20 at Aldergrove Arena.
The score puts the Kodiaks at the top of the with six points after four games (3-1-0-0).
It was another outstanding night for Kodiaks captain Matt Oliver, who notched four points for a pair each of goals and assists. Oliver has scored at least once in all four regular season games, and had assists in three (a total of six goals and six assists).
The Kodiaks were scoreless in the first period, despite matching the Flames in 12 shots on goal, but more than made up for it in the second period.
Oliver scored first with a beautiful deflection of Davin Padgham鈥檚 shot past keeper Paul Tucek into the Flames鈥� net at 1:32. Kodiak John Lee had an assist.
Five minutes later Kodiaks Jacob Ruck scored another to even it up 2-2, assisted by Padgham and Jesse Conroy.
Six minutes later the Flames came back with another pair of goals to briefly take a 4-2 lead.
However, in the final five minutes of the period the Kodiaks scored three more to take a 5-4 lead, including a power play goal by Kodiak Clayton Schroeder at just one second before the buzzer ended the period. Schroeders assists came from Padgham and Ty Pickering.
The other second period goals were from Conroy and Oliver (on a power play), with assists from Oliver and Pickering.
Less than a minute into the third period the Kodiaks scored yet again, this tim by Kyle Bosko from Oliver and Padgham, on a power play.
The Flames put the pressure on the Kodiaks for the rest of the game but were only able to score one at the 16:13 mark for the 6-5 result for the Kodiaks.
Shots in goal were 33-30 for the Kodiaks and Oliver and Padgham were the game鈥檚 first and second stars, respectively.
Next up for the Kodiaks is a road trip to the North Vancouver Wolf Pack this Saturday, Sept. 23. The Kodiaks hosts the Surrey Knights, Wednesday, Sep. 27, 7:15 p.m. at Aldergrove Arena and play away at Abbotsford Pilots, Friday, Sept. 29, to close out the month.
October home games for the Kodiaks are: Richmond Sockeyes Oct. 4; Grandview Steelers Oct. 11; North Vancouver Wolf Pack Oct. 18; and Port Moody Panthers Oct. 25.
