Editor: Almost every time I look in the paper and read a comment about our current mayor, letter writers speak about how he has been treated by council. This 鈥渦s鈥 against 鈥渢hem鈥 attitude is not doing anyone any good. Could our mayor have done anything different to work with council on issues, instead of saying he was bullied and laying blame on others?
Mayor Dianne Watts of Surrey, when she was first elected, was in the same sort of predicament with virtually no support from the council that was aligned with a previous mayor. Yet she was able to work with council on the issues at hand and not let herself be dissuaded or distracted by personality conflicts, such as is happening here in the Township. Now that鈥檚 real leadership.
This petulance between our mayor and council has been going on since the first meeting of thed current council nearly three years ago. What has the mayor actually done when there has been no leadership during this entire term? I have heard countless times that our mayor is 鈥渘ot done yet.鈥 Not done what? What has he started for that matter?
Why is there so much hostility to Jack Froese running for mayor anyways? On his web page, one can see he has been involved with numerous community groups, the chamber of commerce, Rotary club, and he received an award from the Aldergrove Agriculture Association for his farm.
Imagine 鈥 a successful businessman and farmer who wants to run for mayor of a farming community. Resume 鈥 check. Someone so graciously advised that Froese should 鈥済et his feet wet鈥 in municipal politics first.
I for one like the confident 鈥渏ump in with both feet鈥 attitude that he has shown. That attitude is what made the Township originally, and perhaps that attitude is needed now.
